2019-2020 Time Travelers Kickoff Meeting

To kickoff the 2019-2020 school year, the Time Travelers gathered at Warren's Grove United Methodist Church for an information meeting.


 Meeting Minutes:


Old Business:

~Introduced officers.
~Rachel and Anna volunteered to share the office of secretary.


New Business:

~Announced new events and programs for the year.  For more information, visit the Time Travelers Facebook page.
  • The Time Travelers Podcast:
    • This club will meet from 2-4pm after each monthly meeting.  Each team will work to create podcast episodes using radio recordings by Person County Historian Bessie Daniels.  Skills gained include writing, technology, and a better understanding and appreciation of local history.
  • Living History Days:
    • The Time Travelers are hosting two Living History Days this school year.  In the fall, the theme will be "the Founding Fathers" and in the spring, "the French Revolution."  Each days will be full of hands-on-history, delicious food from the time-period, and other fun and educational activities.
  • T-Shirt Designing Contest:
    • As a fundraiser, the Time Travelers would like to sell t-shirts representing our club and local history.  They are holding a competition to design the t-shirt.  For the list of rules and requirements, visit the Facebook page.  Designs are due at the September meeting.
  • Tryon Palace Tour:
    • For September's field trip, the Time Travelers are visiting Tryon Palace in New Bern, North Carolina.  They will tour the historic buildings on the property, as well as experience history coming to life at Tryon Palace's annual Civil War Weekend.
  • Patrick Henry: Founding Father? workshop:
    • Should Patrick Henry be considered a Founding Father?  You decide after a day at Partick Henry's Red Hill participating in living history and investigative workshops about Patrick Henry and his time.
  • Most Epic Field Trip Ever: Philadelphia
    • The Time Travelers have decided to dream big this year!  An epic field trip is in the works to go to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a city rich with colonial and founding history.  Have a chance to visit national historic sites, museums, and other notable locations.

Following the business meeting, members of the Time Travelers played a True or False game about Person County history.
